Today in my sociology class we discussed rape. We started off by answering true or false questions about perceived ideas on the topic. The combination of two questions’ responses really made me uncomfortable. One dealt with dressing provocatively and the second dealt with consuming…
Ive always felt strange about these situations. Its always good to make people aware of how to avoid such things, but I think it would be more beneficial to focus on the people who are committing such intrusive crimes as opposed to telling girls to be careful their skirt isnt too short. In my literature class we spent a lot of time focusing on this debate where a girl was being pressured into admitting that if she hadnt acted flirty and desirable toward the woman who raped her, he ultimately wouldnt have been tempted to rape her. Making the rapist the victim and the girl at fault..its obvious thats a way for people to try and justify why such things would happen, but once again, I just dont get it. Everyone is crazy.
I think that ultimately a rapist gets off on power, not their victim’s sexuality. We should also recognize that women are not the only victims of rape and men are not always the rapist.

Sounds like your class is full of dildos. I’ve had similar conversations in classes but we discussed rape at all angles. We talked about why men rape, not why women are raped.
